Solitary Trees
Trees are social beings that grow alongside others of their own species. For some reason these exceptional specimens stand apart from the rest, as if they needed space. Far from life in community, they withstand the shifts of weather and the passing of time. Their appearance may change often, but they always keep their stability, their peace.
This is quite a challenge, because it is much harder for a tree to survive in isolation than in a forest, surrounded by others it can interact with to stay alert to danger and to nourish itself.
Coming across a solitary tree is always an invitation to stop, contemplate it, and admire its capacity to stand firm, indifferent to whatever happens around it.
